You may remember the field trip I made some months ago in which I questioned the League of Legends community on the usefulness of live data visualisations. Although I obviously looked at the results and analyzed them the very moment I closed off the survey, I promised to also share the results with interested participants. Just forwarding them a csv file with the results seems a bit ungrateful, doesn’t it? So I took the time to automatically process the results in the csv file to an infographic which can be found here.

Although I didn’t mention it here yet, I did some of the basic implementation of the prototype itself already in parallel with the last prototype updates and expert evaluations. The implementation advanced smoother than I had foreseen. The video below shows the current state of the implementation. As can be seen, not all visualisations and functionality has been implemented yet but there’s a solid foundation to build on!

After the last revision of the prototype and some final affirmative expert evaluations, I felt confident enough to share all the work I’ve done in the last couple of months on the prototype with the larger community on Reddit. The post gained traction rather quickly as it was displayed on the frontpage of the League of Legends subreddit for some hours. Despite of the roughly 3000 views and very encouraging comments, only 13 persons participated in the included questionnaire. The results can be found here.

Next thing up is finishing and revising the implementation based on the limited amount of results of the questionnaire. Thereafter, the working version of the prototype will be evaluated in person in a small scale user study in which we hope to confirm the added value of the live data visualisations while watching competitive League of Legends games.
